Used Cigarettes

IMG_8901“There’s something tragically beautiful about a half-burned cigarette left at dusk in an ash tray. The tip sparks and glows as the atmosphere becomes darker. It lays scattered amongst used buds and black ash. The cigarette begins to burn out with the dying sunlight. smoke unfurls into the air as if it’s reaching and searching for the fingers that held it to lips that it so gently rested between moments ago. The sun sets and it’s dark, the air is cold, and the life of the cigarette is no more. There’s no need. The previous owner flicked it away once it became useless, and it faded away with others discarded like it. There’s something so tragically beautiful about how love can hold us so closely one moment and then toss us into an ash tray of broken hearts the next.”
